I design and code websites for fun and profit. After getting my BA in psychology from the University of Chicago, I decided to get a second degree in Graphic Design from Parsons in order to better understand the relationship between human behavior and design. I currently work at the Penguin Group. Here are some of the recent projects I have created:
Curiosity may have killed the cat, but it has also motivated me to pursue an integrated understanding of both design and development for the web. I enjoy having the ability to take a project from thumbnail sketches to fully-functioning website myself, and I think the holistic view gives me greater insight into how visual and technical detail come together to shape a better user experience.
As a result, I spend a good deal of time keeping up with the latest techniques and best practices in my favored tools:
I have extensive experience creating and working with static websites, but have also created dynamic sites for clients with these Content Management Systems:
When need arises, I am also familiar with these additional web technologies:
From childhood, I've had a love of photography, and it was my interest in art that lead to my career in design. Currently, my enlarger is in exile, but, happy to wear many hats, I occasionally do some product photography for my projects at Penguin.
I sometimes get the urge to jump off the screen and into the world of print, and am, thus, no stranger to InDesign and (gasp) Quark. When time permits, I like getting my hands dirty working with various printmaking techniques ranging from linoleum, to photolithography, to letterpress.
When I'm not at Penguin I pursue a number of other personal and professional interests. I am a pro-bono consultant for the Taproot Foundation, putting my web and project management skills to work for non-profits. I also help run an outdoor movie night on my roof, experiment with rooftop gardening, try to chip away at the never-ending supply of books I collect at Penguin and, when Manhattan isn't looking, manage to sneak off to go hiking and camping from time to time.
If, among the rest of these activities, I find a few moments to expand this site you can be among the first to know. Find me on LinkedIn, or fill out the form below for more information.
